Our story

The journey really started in May 2017 when we took the keys to a tired old Georgian building, having been seduced by the location and our belief in its inherent potential.

It was 14 rooms back then, decorated in peach and orange colours straight from the 80’s, with macerators in a number of the bathrooms and a water and heating system that seemed as old as the building itself.

We set about updating the hotel straight away, and continue to invest in our quest to turn the Alexandra into the most loved hotel in Weymouth.

Thankfully the hard work is starting to pay off, in 2020 we were an award winner on Hotels.com with a 9.2/10 rating, and also earned the TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.

Our philosophy is key to this transformation. We believe in good old fashioned hospitality, as encapsulated in our purpose “Exceptional service everytime”.

We are passionate about caring for our guests, each other, our community and the environment. We work with award winning local producers, sourcing locally where possible. We support local artists by giving them exhibition space in the hotel.

One of the first steps that we did was to put recycling bins in each of the rooms. A seemingly small step, but one that immediately halved the amount of waste we sent to landfill.

We have installed dual flush toilets, aerated taps. Continually improving the guest experience, yet at the same time reducing the environmental impact. All of our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources.

During the current season we have replaced our inefficient old boiler, and also put in temperature controls in each of the rooms, again giving greater guest comfort and a reduced environmental impact.

We continually strive to improve, and are well aware that we have only just started this journey.
